A strong first quarter by Jared Blum paved the way for Hudsonville to walk away with a 60-49 win at Rockford in OK Red boys basketball action on Tuesday. Blum shot three 3-pointers and finished with 11 of his 16 points in the quarter.

"We got off to a really good start," Hudsonville coach Eric Elliott said. "That was one of the keys in the game. We came out sharp, and we shot the ball really well. Jared had a great first quarter, and it kind of set the tone for the game. Overall it was probably our best game from start to finish all year as far as our focus and concentration."

Brent Hibbitts added a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (10-6 overall, 5-2 OK Red), and Zach Glass had 11 points.

"We had a lot of guys that contributed on both ends of the court, and that was good to see," Elliott said.

Michael Peterson led all scorers with 23 points for Rockford (6-10, 4-3). "Hudsonville shot well, and our defense wasn't where it needs to be," Rockford coach Nick Allen said. Rockford travels to East Kentwood on Friday.
