Red-hot Rockford boys basketball routs Grand Haven

Nick Wolak, Grand Haven Twp - 2/13/15

The downfall was gradual in the first half, but it was all downhill in the second. Visiting Rockford outscored Grand Haven 21-9 in the third quarter, riding the momentum to a 79-48 blowout. The Rams drilled seven second-half 3-pointers in the rout.

"I can't explain the reasoning," said Grand Haven coach Bob Eidson. "The effort that I was anticipating was not there. We talked about what we needed to do, how we thought should get stops. … If they wanted to drive, they drove. If they wanted to shoot 3's, they shot 3's — they shot open 3's.

"We didn't take anything. If you don't take anything, you're in for a long night, which is what we had. They just took off on us there." Grand Haven was just a couple steps behind Rockford in the first half, displaying some nice play in the post as center Adam Abraham scored nine of his team-high 11 points.

The Bucs trailed 21-13 at the end of the first quarter, before Grand Haven wing B.J. Nahal scored the first five points of the second quarter to cut the Rockford lead to three.
