Casey Watters had a team-high 29 points for Rockford (9-10), which made free throws down the stretch to secure a 59-55 Class A pre-district win against host Cedar Springs on Monday. Reid Kelley added 16 points for Rockford, which held a 36-25 lead at halftime. "Had a bad second quarter," Cedar Springs coach Jeff Patin said. "Cut it to two and had a chance to tie, but it ended up coming down to foul shots. They made their foul shots, and that was the difference." Brad Brechting had a team-high 33 points, 21 rebounds and six blocks for Cedar Springs (12-9) and Cam Link added 12. "He's got a strong inside presence," Patin said of Brechting, a junior. "He does a very good job of getting into the post. We'll get him back next season and build around him." Watters scored 22 of his 29 points in the first half. "We did a better job getting through screens and helping on the drive in the second half," Patin said. "We did a better job rebounding as well." Cedar Springs loses nine seniors. Rockford faces Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Springs in a Class A district semifinal.
