A career cut short and a coach that Rockford wasn't ready to let go themed out the Steve Majerle Appreciation game postponed to Saturday night at Rockford.

The Rams showed appreciation as well with a 57-47 win over Jenison.

Majerle coached the girls basketball team for three years and the boys team for 14 seasons before retiring before this season due to his struggle with Parkinson's Disease. In between the boys and girls games Saturday, the Rockford community said its thank yous to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame coach who led the boys to a 242-92 overall record.

"It was very well done," said Rockford boys coach Nick Allen, who played for Majerle from 1998-2000. "It was great to see the fan support to honor his achievements and success, and the respect the community showed for our legendary coach."

Against Jenison, the boys jumped out to a 15-9 first-quarter lead and led 33-21 at the half. In the third quarter, the Wildcats fought back with a 10-6 edge, before Rockford took the fourth quarter 18-16.

Chad Carlson led the way for Rockford as he scored 13 points. Chase Fairchild added 11 points and Alex Durkin 10 points.

Rockford (4-0, 6-2) returns to action on Friday when it travels to Muskegon.
