ROCKFORD —Kalamazoo Central boys basketball coach Mike Thomas said it's always his team's aim to attack the bucket.

On Saturday night, his Maroon Giants didn't just attack the bucket, they abused it.

With 20 layups and eight dunks, Kalamazoo Central, ranked No. 4 in Class A, downed No. 8 and hosting Rockford, 77-52.

"When they would miss, we got out in front and passed the ball ahead and got some easy buckets," Thomas said. "The object of the game is to get down the court. Whoever is the first down the court is going to score."

Doug Anderson led K-Central with 22 points. Devin Oliver added 17 points for the Giants (9-1).

Thomas refused to say his team dominated the entire game.

"We didn't come out aggressive enough," said Thomas, whose Giants led 26-17 at halftime. "The second half, it was a lot difference. We came out with a lot more fire and energy."

Kalamazoo Central, which has won eight straight, outscored Rockford 28-15 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Ryan Majerle scored 14 points for Rockford (10-2), which entered with a 10-game winning streak.
