KALAMAZOO -- Sophomore Matt Karamol's reverse layup at the buzzer lifted Rockford to a 43-41 upset victory over host Kalamazoo Central in a boys' basketball regular-season finale Saturday night.

The Maroon Giants, ranked eighth in Class A, enter next week's district tournament with a 17-3 record. Rockford, meanwhile, is now 10-10.

Corey Person led K-Central with 10 points, including a pair of free throws in the final seconds that tied the game at 41-apiece before the Rams went the length of the court for the game-winner.

The Maroon Giants went 11-for-18 from the free-throw line compared to only 2-for-2 for Rockford. But the Rams hit seven 3-pointers to K-Central's zero.

The Maroon Giants led 25-19 at halftime, but managed only five points in the third quarter to fall behind by one.
